Autumn care of daylilies
With your bloom finished, it’s time to prepare your daylilies for the winter to come.
- Finish dividing and planting all cultivars. All daylilies should be planted no later than four to six weeks before your typical first hard frost.
- Remove all dead and dying foliage and pull old bloom stalks. Leave the healthy foliage for winter protection.
- Add mulch in colder climates to protect against winter freeze damage. Mulch in warmer climates if needing to improve soil quality, retain soil moisture, or assist in weed prevention.
