Sharing Our Legacy
At Schreiner's Gardens, we've spent 100 years cultivating a legacy of beauty and excellence in iris hybridizing. As a family-owned business, we take pride in offering gardeners around the world the finest iris varieties, grown with care and a commitment to innovation and inspiration.
In 1920, avid gardener F.X. Schreiner had a chance encounter with John Wister - the first president of the newly founded American Iris Society. The conversation was the impetus for a lifelong passion in growing and hybridizing irises. By 1925, F.X. was growing more than 500 varieties on over an acre of ground at the Schreiner' home in St. Paul, Minnesota, and decided to publish his first price list.
Before his untimely death in 1931, F.X. offered his three children Bob, Connie, and Bernard (Gus), two pieces of advice. First, that if they were able to all get along, the iris venture would be a nice family business. Second, should they decide to pursue this path, a more agreeable climate would offer a better chance of success.
